blog post 6

Today i went to the garden and i saw that it is growing. There is sunflower growing beside my plant which is providing some shade. There are lots of new leaves, but there are also some holes in the leaves. Because it has new leaves, I know the plant has grown. This means the plant is making more new cells. The plant's cells are rapidly dividing through mitosis. Most of this growth occurs at the plant's roots because that is where the plant soaks up nutrients from the dirt. The plant is also growing through photosynthesis because it is collecting a lot of carbon dioxide from the cars in the parking lot and turning it into oxygen and carbohydrates. Photosynthesis happens mostly in the plant's leaves. Sunlight hits the leaves and turns it into food in the plant leaves. Because the plant is bigger, we can say that it is adding biomass.
Enzymes help my plant because they play an important part in photosynthesis. Carbon dioxide combines with certain enzymes to make the plant's carbohydrates. Enzymes are also involved in respiration and the formation of ATP.
